man holding sore jaw in need of macomb tmj treatment

Jaw pain and head pain can be debilitating. You may find it difficult to concentrate at work, struggle to get quality sleep, and notice a change in your day to day mood. If you’ve been suffering from chronic pain, Botox could provide relief.

Botox for TMJ

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder affects the joint that connects your jaw to your skull and the muscles that help move it. If you are experiencing persistent pain, tenderness in your jaw, or cannot open or close your mouth completely, you may have a jaw disorder.

We tend to hold tension in our jaws, and many of us don’t notice when we’re clenching or grinding our teeth. Many adults also clench their jaw while sleeping, leading to stress and wear on the jaw joints. This can make it difficult to stop clenching, and to find relief from the accompanying pain.

Botox relaxes the jaw to prevent muscle clenching and additional damage to the jaw. You will still be able to use your jaw normally, but won’t experience the aggravating tension and pressure that have led to jaw pain.

There are a variety of solutions for jaw disorders. If you’re interested in learning more about Botox, a mouth guard, or other options, please schedule a consultation with Dr. Hoffman.
