Macomb general dentist

A significant portion of your child’s dental care depends upon you. By taking him or her to a dentist that tailors treatment specifically to children’s needs, you’ll help your own children form positive associations with dental care. Experiencing pleasant dental treatment as a child is the best way to establish strong dental priorities. As they grow, your children will take better care of their teeth and feel more comfortable pursuing dental treatment if they enjoyed their time in the dental chair at an early age.

We look forward to getting to know both you and your child, in order to provide personalized care. Prior to treatment, we will review your child’s health history so that we’ll be able to better monitor tooth development. Depending on your child’s age and comfort level, we may recommend a brief preliminary visit during which there is no dental exam; this will simply be a chance to grow more familiar with our staff and facilities. We’ll show them the tools we use during cleanings, take a tour of the office, and communicate with your children that there is nothing threatening about dental treatment.

Pediatric Dental Education

We will explain to your children why and how decay attacks teeth to inspire rigorous oral hygiene regimens. It’s important that you follow up at home by encouraging brushing, flossing, and a healthy diet. Research the steps of pediatric dental development to know what to expect, and just let us know if you have any questions about your role in your child’s dental health. Your children look up to you and form their habits based on your lead; by getting them excited about dentistry, you ensure their good oral health for life.

Steps of a Pediatric Dental Exam

Dental exams will differ depending on your child’s teeth, but a standard appointment will include the following steps:

  • Taking dental x-rays to monitor for decay
  • Evaluating, cleaning, and polishing teeth
  • A quick, flavored fluoride treatment (one minute) to help build enamel
  • Applying sealants to molars to prevent cavities
